Here are the ways on how to care for your feet:

  • Wash your feet daily with a washcloth carefully and gently. Soap your feet thoroughly and use a brush as you wash your feet under the faucet. After washing, dry your feet especially the area between the toes where fungal infections can develop completely. This will lessen feet problems such as odor, fungus, athlete’s foot, and bacteria.
  • Do not use Epsom salt when soaking your feet as this might destroy our skin’s natural oils. Use a lukewarm water instead and a liquid soap that contain skin softening ingredients.
  • Moisturize your feet all over except between the toes after shower using a cream, lotion, or petroleum jelly.
  • Alternate the shoes you wear every day to avoid foot odor and infections and change socks more than once a day.
  • Wear shoes that fit well and have proper arch support.
  • Avoid walking barefoot and wearing flip flops to prevent flat feet to develop. Minimize the amount of time wearing shoes that does not provide proper arch support.
  • Check feet for any problem and visit a podiatrist, at least, annually.
  • Do not ignore any foot related conditions because this can have a serious effect in our daily routine. If you are not able to walk comfortably, you stop being physically active. A sedentary lifestyle can cause major health problems like cancer or heart disease. Schedule an appointment with your doctor or a podiatrist when the pain in your feet keeps you from moving around or exercising.
